The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) aims to be a national leader in computing research and state-of-the-art pedagogy. With "global excellence and local relevance" as its driving philosophy, the department has resolved to contribute to the advancement of Information Technology in India. The CSE Department at IIT-H offers B.Tech, M.Tech (2-Year and 3-Year), Executive M.Tech (self-paced, 2-4 years) and Ph.D programs.
The department at IIT-H comprises 17 young faculty members (with several adjunct faculty from reputed academic and industry backgrounds), who are actively engaged in research areas including theoretical computer science, algorithms, graph theory, computational complexity, formal methods, constraint solving, graph theory, networks and mobile systems, Internet of Things, databases, parallel/distributed systems, VLSI, computer architecture, compilers, machine learning, big data,
social network analysis, and image/video/text processing. The faculty also have large sponsored research projects in the application domains of cyber-physical systems, disaster management, converged wireless technologies, smart cities, big data analytics and visual intelligence, and have active research collaborations with various academic and industry partners such as Microsoft Research India, IBM Research, Samsung Research India, Intel, AMD, INRIA, Eurecom, as well as IISc and other IITs. The department has risen in stature over its short existence, evidenced by a sharp rise in opening and closing JEE ranks (Opening rank: 418; Closing rank: 879 in 2016). The department has a sound placement record with top hiring companies in recent years including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, etc.
