Abstract
Ambient IoT envisions energy-neutral devices powered through ambient energy harvesting or wireless power transfer, enabling long-term autonomous operation. This talk presents recent advances in energy-aware computing, TinyML, and ultra-low-power wireless communications that enable intelligent sensing and connectivity under stringent energy and resource constraints. It also provides an overview of ongoing research at imec–IDLab, University of Antwerp, including the Horizon Europe SNS flagship projects Hexa-X-II and AMBIENT-6G, highlighting key challenges, enabling technologies, and future research directions towards sustainable, intelligent energy neutral IoT systems.

Bio
Ritesh Kumar Singh is a Principal Investigator at IMEC and Principal Research Fellow at IDLab, University of Antwerp, Belgium, where he leads the Low-Power Research Portfolio. His research focuses on Ambient IoT, energy-neutral systems, embedded AI, TinyML, energy harvesting, ultra-low-power wireless communications, and next-generation 6G technologies. He is actively involved in several national and European research initiatives, including the most recent Horizon Europe SNS flagship projects Hexa-X-II and AMBIENT-6G, contributing to research on sustainable, energy-neutral IoT technologies. Before joining academia, he gained over a decade of research and industrial experience at LG Electronics Research in Seoul, South Korea, and TCS Research & Innovation Labs in India. At the University of Antwerp, he teaches Computer Networks and Mobile Communication to the bachelor’s course, and IoT-Low-Power Embedded Communication as a major in the master’s programme. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and actively contributes to international conferences, collaborative European research projects, and standardization activities.
